Commission Website Upgraded
Joyce Mason

The Georgia Real Estate Commission / Appraisers Board (GREC - GREAB) recently upgraded the state website with improvements designed to provide detailed information and online services in easier to use format. The look of the website is new with more information, and several valuable quick links have been provided. The website can be utilized by licensees, as well as the general public.

One of the most valuable new features of the website change is a reporting tool that gives detailed information about the status of a licensee's education. Whether you are an appraiser or a real estate agent, you can check the education reported to your license. Information contained in the report includes the next renewal date, total number of credited hours, what type of hours were credited, any hours needed for the current renewal period along with any specific education requirements (7 hour USPAP update for appraisers). Licensees can also submit address changes directly from this page, eliminating the need to send in a paper notification. If you are dual licensed, information for both of your licenses will appear on the same page.

At renewal time, licensees are encouraged to renew their license directly on the website and as an incentive, the Commission reduces the fee amount for online renewal.

Searching for an appraiser or real estate agent? The Commission's data base lists all licensees along with their license number, status, classification, and next renewal date. The new website functionality allows individuals to find Real Estate brokerages, either by company name or location, and Appraisers can be located by name or license.

Additional information that has always been available but now may be easier to find include information regarding obtaining a license for real estate or appraising. Individuals can research the accredited schools in Georgia and obtain information on licensing requirements. Licensees that are interested in becoming an instructor can obtain the necessary information to satisfy the State requirements.

Other areas of interest are Commission meeting schedules, disciplinary sanctions, pending rule changes and recent decisions, the Georgia Real Estate license law, the Appraiser's Act, forms and applications, frequently asked questions, articles on how to prevent mortgage fraud, as well as employment opportunities and directions to the Commission. Dissatisfied consumers can request an investigation regarding a licensee or brokerage transaction.

The improvements made to the Commission website should drastically reduce the many telephone calls they receive and may improve communication. AREA encourages all students and potential students to visit the State website on a regular basis. The website address for the Commission is http://www.grec.state.ga.us. The link is also available through AREA's website under Resources. Many helpful links are displayed and categorized by industry.
